Obiettivi formativi
The course aims at:
1) Presenting the methods used in cognitive and affective neuroscience
2) Outlining the neurobiological bases of higher-order perceptual, cognitive and affective functions
3) Describing the anatomical and functional interactions between cognitive and affective processes
4) Discussing neuronal mechanisms underpinning primary neuropsychological conditions entailing deficits in cognitive and affective functions.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course, students should become acquainted with basic neuroscientific principles underlying the normal functioning of cognitive and affective processes, the similarities and differences between cognition and emotion, and the neuroanatomical and neurofunctional changes associated with the major neuropsychological conditions entailing deficits in either higher-order cognitive or affective processes.
Students are expected to appreciate the rationale of the common methods applied in cognitive and affective neuroscience.

Programma
The program of the course is organised in the following sessions:
1) Historical background of cognitive and affective neuroscience
2) Methods in cognitive and affective neuroscience
3) Neurobiological bases of visual and cognitive functions
4) Neurobiological bases of affective functions
5) Similarities, differences and interactions between cognitive and affective processes
6) Neuronal mechanisms underpinning primary neuropsychological conditions entailing deficits in cognitive and affective functions

Modalità di insegnamento
The course will include in-person lectures enhanced with visual slides and tailored reading materials.
- Oggetto:
Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
The exam includes a written test with multiple-choice questions spanning the whole program of the course. Independent of the score on the written test, the students will always be able to undertake the viva interview. If the written test is passed (score ≥ 18), the students can either accept the score or do the viva.
Students must demonstrate that they have developed basic knowledge of the topics dealt with in the program.
