The course consists of a combination of traditional lectures and practical sessions which aim to cover most of the methodological and concrete aspects of conducting cognitive neuroscience research.

- Understanding the power and the limitations of any methodological tools as well as the importance of convergent evidence across complementary techniques
- Identifying their appropriate domain of application in light of the specific goals of scientific research
- Applying the acquired knowledge in order to design and carry out real empirical studies
- Effective written communication of cognitive neuroscience methodology, design, analysis, and interpretation

- The historical evolution of mind/brain sciences
- At the root of the cognitive neuroscience approach (basic anatomy, anatomo-clinical correlation, convergence/complementarity, correlation/causation, direct/indirect methods, morphology/functionality, spatial/temporal resolution, subtraction, multimethodological etc.)
- Overview of a number of approaches/techniques (e.g., behavioral analysis, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, neuropsychological patients, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neuroimaging, perturbation methods)
- Hands-on experience with a range of techniques (e.g., psychophysics, Immersive Virtual Reality, Electroencephalography, lesion mapping)
- The foundations of scientific research (e.g., questions, funding, ethics, design, observation, analysis, interpretation, dissemination)
- Building up your own research project
